CMA CGM Implements Emergency Fuel Surcharge Due to Rising Bunker Costs

What Happened?

CMA CGM is implementing a global Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) due to a sharp rise in bunker costs, which it attributes to renewed hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz. Effective from 1 August 2026, the surcharge will increase the overall cost of ocean transportation for shippers across all trade lanes. The measure is intended to support service reliability and will remain in effect until further notice.
