Hapag-Lloyd Introduces Low Water Surcharge for Manaus Shipments Amid River Level Drop
What Happened?
Hapag-Lloyd is implementing a Low Water Surcharge (LWS) for cargo to and from the Port of Manaus, Brazil, due to decreasing water levels on the Amazonas River. The surcharge of USD 1,350 per container will apply to all container types for cargo with a tariffing date on or after September 12, 2026. The carrier is monitoring the situation and will provide a 30-day notice if the effective date needs to be adjusted.
