Maersk Implements Emergency Contingency Surcharge for India-Europe Services
What Happened?
Maersk has announced a significant financial adjustment for shippers, increasing its Emergency Contingency Surcharge (ECS) by US$1,000 per container for shipments on its E3W and E4W services. Effective 1 August 2026, the rate hike will impact all cargo originating from the Indian Subcontinent destined for North Europe and the Mediterranean. This change raises total landed costs, with new surcharge levels reaching up to US$4,800 for certain container types and routes.
