Maersk Introduces Emergency Surcharges and Rerouting Due to Hormuz Disruptions

Maersk has introduced significant emergency freight rates and operational changes for cargo moving to and from the Upper Gulf due to disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz. The carrier is levying surcharges that can total up to $4,800 per container and is rerouting cargo via Omani ports with landbridge connections. These measures are accompanied by booking suspensions for certain cargo types and destinations, as well as changes to empty container return locations.
