Empty Container Backlog Triggers Truckers' Strike at Manila Port

What Happened?

Customs brokers and hauliers in Manila have initiated a work stoppage ahead of a planned multi-day trucking strike over severe empty container congestion. Outbound cargo volumes have plummeted to roughly 10% of normal capacity as flatbeds remain tied up holding stranded boxes. In response, ocean carriers including Hapag-Lloyd have suspended bookings to Manila, Batangas, and Subic Bay through the end of the year.
