MSC Revises Emergency Fuel Surcharge for European Short-Sea Routes
What Happened?
MSC will implement a revised Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) effective 10 August 2026, impacting European short-sea trade lanes connecting Northern Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Black Sea. This update increases freight costs for shippers, with new charges ranging from US$26 to US$62 per TEU for dry cargo and US$39 to US$92 for reefers. These surcharges will remain in effect until further notice, with the highest rates applied to the Greece, Turkey, and Black Sea trades.
