MSC Extends Piracy and Suez Canal Surcharges on Asia-Mediterranean Routes
What Happened?
MSC is expanding its Piracy Risk Surcharge and Suez Canal Surcharge due to persistent piracy threats around the Arabian Peninsula. Effective October 19, 2026, these charges will apply to all cargo from Asia destined for an extensive list of ports across the East Mediterranean, West Mediterranean, North Africa, and the Adriatic. This move will increase shipping costs for cargo owners on these specified trade lanes.
